Geocache Description:

The second in our aviation navigation series (see GC665EA for the first) trying to tie together two different forms of navigation.

This cache is primarily sited to be close to and in view of the Barkway (BKY) DVOR which is one of the most-used pieces of aviation navigation equipment in the area as it is used for aircraft arriving into both Luton and Stansted airports.  On a good day, you'll be able to see aircraft peeling off left (for Luton) and right (for Stansted) when facing North towards the DVOR itself.

The Barkway DVOR is located on the site of the former RAF Nuthampstead.  The airfield was built in 1942 and was active from 1943-1954, chiefly for the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Eighth Air Force.  RAF Nuthampstead was home to the 55th Fighter Group with P-38H Lightnings and the 398th Bomb Group with B17G Flying Fortresses.  There are a couple of memorials at a nearby pub.

The cache is a large tub containing a couple of bits including a new trackable to launch out into the world.
