PC Blue 1
This cache should be a quick park-and-grab. However, if you are interested in a terrific and easy hike which visits two incredible historical locations....read on!
This is the first in a series of nine caches. At two of those caches, you can view some fascinating historical remains and read my accounts of some very surprising events related to them.
First in the series, this cache will get you to the parking area and trailhead which are just a few feet away. The parking area can be reached by turning off Highway 224 onto Old Ranch Road and following that to the Old Ranch Trailhead and site of this cache.
Expect an easy two-mile (one way) hike with mostly very gradual climbing. Views of the surrounding valleys and mountains are outstanding. The trail is bikable, but due to lots of rocks, would be on the rough side. Switchbacks are long and gradual and you may not always be headed toward the next cache.
Following is a suggested guide to the hike which includes caches at the two historical sites. Links to each of the nine caches are included. Note: PC Blue 7 and Legend of Lachlan are closed to the public from November 15 through April 15 each year to protect a sensitive wildlife area.
PC Blue 1 (this cache)
Follow the trail going north (not toward the next cache at first)
Follow the switchback and the sign for the Rambler Trail
PC Blue 2
PC Blue 3
PC Blue 4
At the next trail split, stay left
PC Blue 5
PC Blue 6
Wreck of the PC Blue (first historical site - see cache listing for details)
Continue northeast on the road around the edge of the pit and stay on the road to the next two caches
PC Blue 7 CLOSED NOVEMBER 15 - APRIL 15
Possible very minor bushwhacking to reach the final site
Legend of Lachlan CLOSED NOVEMBER 15 - APRIL 15
(Second historical site - see cache listing for details)
There may be at least one other cache to grab on your return.
