Geocache Description:

**Please note: The original ammo can has been muggled. Cache has been replaced.  It is no longer an ammo can, but still a regular-sized cache. There is also now a special marking pencil (in lieu of the punch) to check this location off of your card.**

Norfolk General Hospital

Dr. PH Salter opened Norfolk General Hospital in a small home in 1912. The hospital was moved to this location in 1915 and was open for a number of years before closing down. The hospital was converted into apartments and in 1935 sold to the Catholic Church. They reopened it as a hospital staffed by Missionary Benedictine Sisters. Dr. Salter was also one of the founders of The Norfolk Country Club in 1909.

2016 marks the 150th Anniversary of Norfolk's founding.  The celebration continues though the end of the year!  16 geocaches have been placed at historic locations around Norfolk.  You are invited to "Uncover Norfolk's Past . . . One Cache At A Time".  Each cache contains a punch specific to that location (DO NOT REMOVE PUNCH FROM CACHE).  Sign the cache log and then use the punch to mark your game card for that location.  Game cards are available at the Norfolk Visitor's Bureau (609 W Norfolk Ave) and at the Dover office (1000 W Norfolk Ave).  When you have completed the trail and filled your card, you can turn it in for a commemorative Norfolk 150 Geocoin (while supplies last)!

If you complete the trail and turn in your game card prior to September 23rd, 2016, you will also be entered into a drawing for a brand new 50" flatscreen TV to be given away at Norfolk's Oktoberfest celebration on September 24th!! You need not be present to win the TV and no purchase is necessary.  The Norfolk 150 Trail will be open through DECEMBER 31st, 2016!

Permission has been granted for placement of this cache.  Please be respectful of the area and use stealth when necessary.

Good luck and we'll see you on the trail!
