A&A45 - Dogs at the Rink? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Septooners: This cache had a great run. It was tough - many people didn't find it, and then suddenly someone would! If those now want to know - it was in a magnet key holder stuck to the side of the tin siding of the arena, about head level on the backside of the rink. Thanks for all that looked. I can't get there to check if it's there, but as the Geocache Gods have told me to disable it, it's all I can really do now. Glad it was fun for a number of years!

Geocache Description:

A&A came to Marmora in 1973, making it their home, work and playground.

This series of geocaches was created by A&A's geocaching kids, in honour of their 45th wedding anniversary, and to celebrate all of the amazing ways that A&A contributed to Marmora. This was a great town to grow up in, and we are forever grateful for all they did!

Now here's a hot spot in Marmora. And one for the dogs.

See this shiny new arena? Well, it's shinier and newer than the crummy, old, falling-down one that was here. During the time that Papa A was Reeve of Marmora (for nine years), Toronto really wanted to send its garbage to the Marmoraton Mine (check it out -- just off Hwy 7, and two caches there). At the same time, the town's arena had been condemed. Imagine?! In Small Town Ontario, the rink being shut off from the community!? So, Toronto sweetened the garbage pot, and offered a bribe: they'd build the town a new arena. People were tempted... Oh, were they...

But Papa A and the council refused. They didn't fall for that stinky plot. Nope, instead, all on their own, they built their own new arena, and TO's garbage ended up going elsewhere. Victory!

Mama A had a role in this 'hood too. These fairgrounds are where the annual Sno-Fest celebration take place, including one of Canada's longest sled dog races. Mama A spent many years behinds the scenes, making this community gem of a celebration a big success. And she's not even a dog-lover!

Sled dogs and a new rink. Definitely a spot to sit and ponder all they did for this community!
