El Ferrocarril Trasandino fue un ferrocarril, hoy en ruinas, que unía la ciudad chilena de Los Andes y la ciudad argentina de Mendoza. Fue inaugurado el 5 de abril de 1910, luego de superar muchas dificultades los años anteriores, y operó hasta 1984.
La estación dónde se encuentra el caché se encargaba de abastecer de agua a las primeras locomotoras a vapor. Cuando aparecieron la locomotoras diésel, quedaron abandonadas. El tiempo y el vandalismo las ha dejado en el estado en que se encuentran.
El paisaje en la zona es imponente y hay buen lugar para dejar estacionado auto y tomar hermosas fotografías.
El Caché: Es un contenedor pequeño protegido con una bolsa de plástico negra. Por favor dejar bien cerrado porque el clima en la zona es muy duro.
