This cache is part of what will be a mini Geistown Borough Geo-Trail. The purpose of this trail will get cachers to experience different parts of this one square mile community. Incorporated in 1930, Geistown is loved by its residents and maintains its status as a quiet and small residential community. It is bordered by Richland and Stonycreek Townships, and carved in half by Route 56 (Scalp Avenue). Approximately 2,000 people live in Geistown, the CO being one of them.
Commemorative coins are in production for the completion of this trail. To be eligible, create a bookmark list when you find them and then send the CO a message with an address to send the coin. Once the finds are verified a coin will be sent to you. If you do not feel comfortable providing a mailing address, I can leave the coins at the borough office for pickup. Let me know what works for you!
The 1980s and ‘90s saw the installation of the borough’s first traffic lights. After the Richland Mall was built in the ‘70s, traffic through Geistown increased dramatically, making the central intersection of Bedford, Nees, and Belmont extremely dangerous. Consequently, in the ‘80s, Geistown Borough Council petitioned PennDot for a traffic light, the first the borough had ever needed. Since the intersection is state-owned, right of ways were taken from all four corners in order to widen Bedford and Belmont with turning lanes. The result was that Ann’s Pizza, Lopresti’s Market, and Johnstown Bank and Trust all lost numerous parking spots. The resulting changes resulted in Geistown's Cloverleaf intersection, affectionately known locally as "The Cloverleaf."
The cache is located virtually in the center of the cluster of roads that make up the Cloverleaf. It is located in a nice greenspace that makes Geistown lovely. Please use the parking coordinates provided. You can not access the cache from anywhere other than these coordinates. This is a highly active area with lots of traffic so please use stealth. Take some time to take in the greenspace, as it is not accessed normally.
