Welcome to the 2016 Geocaching Summer Games! No worries if you haven't trained like an olympian, you can read a GPS like a gold medalist! As a follow up to the quick "Summer Games #1 = Pole Vault" and "Summer Games #2 - Javelin", here is another "Summer Games #3 - Kayak". Unlike the other two PnGs, this one is a challenge - kayak required... or canoe, or other boat. Swimming not recommended. Bushwhacking? Well, they don't have a terrain rating of 6, so no bushwhacking recommended - you'd be turning bushwhacking in to an olympic sport if you tried!
Western Island Pond (probably more like a lake) is a great place to paddle. There are a pair of loons on the lake now (July 2016), who are nesting and about to have their young. There are osprey, ducks, and swallows to be seen on a regular basis. So bring your boat; the terrain is 5 star only for the fact that a bit of a paddle is required; the cache is easily reachable while sitting in your boat.
While this was originally placed in 2016, we have now made this cache part of the Western Island Pond Paddle (W.I.P. Paddle) series, for a great day of paddling and geocaching. 😊
