Geocache Description:

This series has been put together for you to follow the trail of the Bootleggers “Rum Runners” in the Crowsnest Pass.

. Police Flats: (Leitch Collieries) – site of first NWMP building in Crowsnest Pass

This place is now known as the historic Leitch Colleries site, but before that, it was one of the original North-West Mounted Police outposts. It was established in 1881 to patrol the Crowsnest region. It was known as the “Gap Detachment,” and was used for residences until it was all demolished to make way for mining buildings in 1908. It appears to have been one of the stop over places in the cavalcade which moved the NWMP under Colonel Sam Steele from Fort Steele back to Fort MacLeod in 1878.  From there a small settlement grew nearby which became known as Passburg. For more information about Leitch Collieries and Passburg, consult the interpretive signs throughout the historic site.

This series has been put together for you to follow the trail of the Bootleggers “Rum Runners” in the Crowsnest Pass. There are 13 Caches. All called CNP Prohibition 16-(?). 16 is for the year 2016 and the number behind that is the number of the cache.
