Geocache Description:

The meeting location is a car park, at the bottom of a trail that leads into the foothills of the Galtymore mountains. The terrain shouldn't be too severe but I suggest wear clothes appropriate for a mountain walk, just in case. Please arrive on time (11am) as vital instructions being given by our litter picking hosts and the handout of equipment. I shall be at the given starting point for 30 minutes after the published time.

Cache In Trash Out

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide Geocaching community. Since 2002, Geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

A CITO event has its own Geocaching icon and statistical entry, so for those who have never taken part in one before, now is your opportunity to be rewarded with something new. There are far fewer CITO events than regular events and this is also an opportunity for you to help a local community.

Of course, the real reward lies in giving back to our environment!

The Event

The CITO event will take place on the foothills of the incredibly picturesque Galtymore mountains. The coordinates are for a car park where we'll meet up, coordinate and then move out to help the local community eliminate rubbish left by other less thoughtful visitors to the area.

As mentioned above, the event starts at 11am and will last for about 2 hours. Please try to be prompt for this time as once we start, we will in all probability be dispersing into a number of separate groups.

What to Bring

It is my understanding that the local Fáilte Ireland will provide basic litter picking equipment and safety gear (to be confirmed nearer the time). However, it wouldn't do any harm if you brought some of your own gear too. This could include:

  • Work or Garden Gloves (Required)
  • A litter picker (if you have one)
  • Sturdy footwear (essential)
  • Wet weather clothing (this is Ireland after all....)

Afterwards, hopefully we'll get a chance to put our mountain of rubbish together and take a photo, as is the time-honoured CITO tradition. Any rubbish collected will be taken care of for us by Fáilte Ireland.
