Cedar Street in Wardell has a great deal of history - Opposite this house is the original police station for Wardell - the police station is now found at the end of Cedar Street on the right. Also at the end of the street is an original mile marker stating that from here it is 20 miles to Lismore. Opposite the police station is our local Rural Fire Service brigade which boasts 2 trucks and many local volunteers to assist in responding to fires, storm damage and major traffic accidents.
Next to the fire brigade is the beautiful Mayley House, built by the Lumley family in 1910. It was originally built in a different location locally, but had to be moved here when the Pacific Highway was constructed. It is an historic building well over 100 years old and was, not so long ago, a fully licensed restaurant where you could enjoy a wonderful meal in a delightful setting, surrounded by the many antique items collected by the owners and enjoy the lovely gardens surrounding the house.
The site for Mayley house was also the original site for the Lumley's Butchery which supplied the Wardell community with meat for many years.
No need to go past the gardens in the front of the house.
**Yes, you have our permission to get this cache even though it is somewhere you would never normally look! and it apparently makes many people feel uncomfortable. This was our way of hoping to meet new and fellow geocachers! Feel free to say hello!**
