Geocache Description:

Kahuterawa is a developing bush track area and this cache celebrates a monument in the immediate vicinity.

Last Post

In military tradition, the Last Post is one of a number of bugle calls that mark the phases of the day. While Reveille signals the start of a soldier's day, the Last Post signals its end. It is also sounded at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest and at commemorative services such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.

Kahuterawa Bush Remnant

Located beside Linton Military Camp this bush is managed by the Department of Conservation with the aim to restore it and create a reserve that residents can enjoy and local schools can use as a resource for environmental education.

Various groups have been working for many years to restore and enhance the Kahuterawa Bush Remnant. Interested parties include the Palmerston North Rotary Club, the New Zealand Defence Force, Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School, Forest & Bird, the Department of Conservation, Horizons Regional Council, Palmerston North City Council, Green Corridors and the Linton community. Day-to-day care of the bush is now being taken care of as part of the larger Lower Kahuterawa Stream Biodiversity Restoration Project, a partnership between Horizons Regional Council, Massey University and the NZ Defence Force.

This Reserve owes its life to the tireless efforts and vision of Jock McKenzie, along with Ken Rush and the Kahuterawa Bush Reserve Community Care Group who have managed to restore this site to a wonderful example of native forest.

I hope this cache takes you to a new and unique place.
