Once upon a time these rail lines were serviced entirely by steam trains, and the passenger lines ran all the way up to Stirling (and beyond?). Blackwood train station must have been a strategic location for the engines to take on water, and today the water tank and refilling spout are still in place. Long since dry, they give a lovely insight into yesteryear.
More recently new development has started adjacent to the cache: It looks like a mini rail village is popping up, and we will be watching this space with interest. At the time of writing new full sized train carriages had appeared inside the fenced off area, and a mini track had been laid around them.
