As I was driving to do some Caching I saw this new site looming up and then a new piece of railway - a new siding. In the news these days its more common to hear that track is being removed or sidings are no longer in use. But here is brand new facitity called Midland Port with its own siding off the main trunk line with barriers and flashing lights and everything. The new Port opened on 1 June 2016 and has a dedicated rail shuttle from Lyttelton delivering containers.
The hold up on this road will not be popular with workers heading to and from the city the back way! Next they will want a over bridge - dream on!!!
