Ah, August 20, 2016.... What a good day it is. August 20 is the 232nd day of the year (233rd in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. Do you know some of the things that have happened on this day? Well, here are some of the events:
1964 - As part of his Great Society policies, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act which, among other things, established the Head Start program.
1968 - The Soviet Union and other Warsaw Pact nations invaded Czechoslovakia.
1977 - The space probe Voyager 2 was launched. It continues to explore to this day, and is now more than 7 billion miles from Earth.
1980 - Italian Reinhold Messner made the first successful solo ascent of Mount Everest and without oxygen.
1998 - U.S. cruise missiles hit suspected terrorist bases in Afghanistan and the Sudan.
2000 - Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship becoming the first player since Ben Hogan in 1953 to win three majors in one year.
Now that you know that info, are you aware of the various weird holidays and observances:
- Lemonade Day
- Chocolate Pecan Pie Day
- Honey Bee Day
- Bacon Lover's Day
- World Mosquito Day
- Radio Day
- International Homeless Animals' Day
- Virtual Worlds Day
And of course, our favorite, International Geocaching Day!
They have officially announced that there will be a souvenir for finding a cache or attending a event on this day this year.
However, this event may be more important for another reason. Currently there is a TB race in progress called "HQ Duck Dash". In order for the participants to receive a special badge for their Geocaching profile, their duck must be dropped into a event on this day. In order for any ducks in our area to meet that goal, I have decided to create this event.
Details:
Where: Culver's
When: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
If anyone has a cache or cache's that they would like to have published for the event, please let me know and we can find them Livonia style as a large group FTF.
