Un primo ponte venne costruito da Agrippa, amico e genero dell'imperatore Augusto prima della sua morte nel 12 a.C.. Il ponte, già probabilmente danneggiato nel 589-590, crollò a causa di una piena del fiume nel 791 e fu quindi conosciuto come "ponte rotto" (pons fractus o pons ruptus). Sotto papa Sisto IV si iniziò nel 1473 il rifacimento dell'antico ponte romano che fu inaugurato per il Giubileo del 1475, ma completato solo nel 1479, prese quindi il nome attuale di "ponte Sisto". Nel 2003 viene girato il videoclip della cantante Giorgia intitolato Gocce di memoria. The first bridge was built by Agrippa, friend and son of the Emperor Augustus before his death in 12 BC. The bridge, probably already damaged in 589-590, collapsed for a flood in 791 and was then known as the "broken bridge" (fractus pons or pons ruptus). Under Pope Sixtus IV in 1473 began the reconstruction of the ancient Roman bridge which was inaugurated for the Jubilee of 1475, but not completed until 1479, then took the present name of "Ponte Sisto". In 2003 was used for the video clip of the singer Giorgia titled "Drops of memory".
