The Discovery Well was the first oil well drilled in the Salt Creek Oilfield and this cache takes you there! Back on October 21, 1908 this well was drilled and struck oil at a depth of 1052' and produced a whopping 200 barrels of oil per day! Named 15WC1SE23 for its well position 15, drilled into the Wall Creek 1 formation below, in the southeast corner of section 23, this well was pumped until January 6, 1937 after production dropped to 1 barrel or less of oil per day. Not that they didn't try though... in 1932 they fed this bad boy a whopping 200 quarts of nitroglycerin to influence additional flow but it didnt work and the well was plugged.
