While cycling around Barnston Island, I was quite amazed at the number of "Feral" fruit trees growing here. Depending on the time of year, one can literally feast on a variety of fruit growing wild on public land. Just by keeping an eye out, I enjoyed wild strawberries, blackberries, huckleberries, apples, and a few remaining cherries. By mid-August, there will be fresh pears, plums and even an apricot or two. Many of these trees are growing right by the roadside (or the trailside in the Metro Vancouver Parks) and it is completely unnecessary to trespass on private property to enjoy them.
