Geocache Description:

Swan Island is a small island with a large history. Before the English came, it was an Abenaki summer hunting camp; they called the island 'Sowangan,' which was changed by the settlers to 'Swango,' which was then changed to its current name, Swan Island. 'Sowangan' means ‘eagle:’ and there are still plenty here!

Go past the two historic houses at our campsite (look in the windows! read our signs!), and take the nearest trail. It’s an easy hike, and you end up in a large sunny field. From there, you can explore the cemetery or go down the mown paths through the grassland.
