Cascata di Pianazzo painted on a wall
La Cascata di Pianazzo [...] è formata dal torrente Scalcoggia, affluente del fiume Liro. Con i suoi circa 180 m di salto è la maggiore della Valchiavenna. Alla sommità della cascata è stato ristrutturato di recente il belvedere accessibile dalla strada. Questa maestosa cascata ha risentito in altezza e portata a causa dell'intervento strutturale volto a captare l'acqua del torrente Scalcoggia per l'utilizzo idroelettrico. Prima della costruzione della briglia, la cascata di Pianazzo poteva vantare un'altezza complessiva verticale di 248 m e di circa 300 prendendola dal punto più elevato fino al punto in cui le sue acque si gettano nel fiume Liro. Essa era ritenuta dai visitatori dell'epoca una delle più spettacolari nell'arco alpino; infatti è stata riprodotta in numerosi dipinti e fotografie.*

The Pianazzo Waterfall [...] is formed by Scalcoggia creek, tributary of the river Liro. With its approximately 180 m jump it is the highest of Valchiavenna. At the top of the waterfall it has been recently renovated a scenic view wooden footbridge. This majestic waterfall has suffered in height and flow due to structural intervention designed to capture water from the Scalcoggia river for a power plant. Before the construction of the weir, the waterfall Pianazzo had a height of 248 m and even 300 taking it from the highest point to the point where its waters flow into the river Liro. It was considered by the visitors of the time one of the most spectacular in the Alps; in fact, it has been shown in numerous paintings and photographs.*
