2017 Cacheup for Newbies Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sweet-Sour: It's the end of January, time to put this one to rest.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that attended, from the comments received during and after the weekend I'm sure everyone had a great time, I know I did.

There is one cache that didn't get published, maybe in time for the next event.
Some 33 new caches were placed for the event, this has opened up Wrattens Forest to Geocaching.

I'm starting to plan the next one.

happy caching

Geocache Description:

This years event is the same as previous events I've held. For the newbies to meet some oldies and learn a few tricks of the trade. There now is Phone reception in the area, but not so good in Wrattens Forest (very patchy) Recomend you bring your GPS or have the ability to use your phone off line for caching.

This years event will be held @ Widgee Showgrounds, starting at 0800 on Saturday 31st and finish at 1600 Monday 2nd January 2017.
The Event is open to all players, new, old, young, inbetween, seniors, 0 or 100000+
We have the use of the grounds. There are Toilets and Hot showers, Tables and shelters.
Camping will be permitted from Friday 30th December to Monday 3rd January. If you wish to stay longer, please let me know when you will be arriving and how long you will be staying.

Geocachers from anywhere are most welcome, more the better.

Don't forget that this is country, phone reception is not the best. There now is good reception around Widgee, but how far outside the town has not been tested. A safe bet is to BRING YOUR GPS.
There is also a new NBN YFI tower for the area.

This event is primarly for the new Geocachers on the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay area (and anyone else, that wants to travel) to meet up and learn the finer points about Geocaching. Like the last couple, I hope that the oldies will pair up with a Newbie and willingly give some coaching.

There will be several FTF draws for the newbies on Saturday and Sunday.

Might add that there is a good mix of T/Ds, which I would like to thank CDAH55 for his assistance while placing. Some are not recommended to do alone as there is a real risk of a misadventure occurring if one is a little inattentive to ones surroundings. None require the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles or special equipment, but recommend the use of only vehicles of medium to high clearance.

Cache placement is open to anyone, please pick a day during the event for release and ask the reviewer for release on the evening of that day.

Anyone placing a cache, please contact me with the details, so we don't overlap, and the info can be given out on the day to the Geocaching Community attending.

Anyone with under 100 will qualify for the FTF draw.

For those camping over the weekend, there will be a small fee of $8.00 per night per powered campsite and $6.00 for an unpowered site, a gold coin donation for those attending daily. This is to help cover the cost of the hall hire.

Dogs are allowed on to the Showgrounds, as most of the caches will be in National Parks and State Forests QPWS does not allow dogs. I would duly like to respect their wishes

BYO food and drinks, Although there is a local Store with food and fuel available.
There will be a BBQ available during the event.

There is plenty of good fresh tank water available.

There are several ways to get there, off the Wide Bay Hwy a short distance from the Bruce Hwy north of Gympie or East from Kilkivan and Woolooga.
Alternatively, from Gympie, cross over the Mary River at the Kidd Bridge, turn right to the Glastonbury - Widgee.

Don't forget to post your "Will Attend" on youngoldfella's CITO event as well. (visit link)
