On November 19, 1805 Capt. William Clark led a small party along this beach, which marked the end of their long journey. This excursion was their first contact with the Pacific Ocean.
In 2005, Jim Demetro, a sculptor and historian from Battle Ground, WA, completed a year-long project of creating a bronze likeness of Captain William Clark from the Lewis and Clark Expedition two hundred years earlier, which was installed on Long Beach as part of the bicentennial celebrations of the historic journey. The nearby nine-foot marker beside the statues is made of native basalt and carved with the names of the men who walked this coastline with Captain Clark.
At the posted coordinates, you'll see another piece of sculpture at the feet of Captain Clark. Answer this simple question to find the cache container:
- If the object at Clark's feet is a canoe paddle, you'll find the cache at N46° 20.813 W124° 03.952
- If the object at Clark's feet is a sturgeon fish, you'll find the cache at N46° 21.107 W124° 03.507
