Geocache Description:

The steps on this trail lead eventually to a Rifle Range which was used during WW2 to train servicemen. When I first moved to this area in the 1970's the rifle fange target area and firing positions were clearly visable but over the last 40 years the forest has reclaimed the target area and the Water Board have eliminated the "Butts or firing position"

The targets were located at the intersection of Darling Mills creek and a small creek joining it from the area of Perry St North Rocks. Behind the targets was a tall sandstone cliff and in front a man made rock wall about 2 metres high. Most of this is now hidden by regrowth. Remnants of bullets (pieces of lead and copper) could be found at the base of the sandstone cliff.

In the early days of living in the area we often took our and neighbours children on hikes down this track to explore the gullies and creeks. Access to Excellceior Reserve, North Rocks, Loyalty Rd, Cook St and many other areas can be made from this location.

You will notice the man made stone and concrete steps to make the descent to the main trail. The cache is a camoflaged mint tin approximately 30 mtrs off the trail along the Darling Mills creek.

I have assigned a terain of 3 due to the climb out from GZ. Tree cover makes gps readings difficult. Byo pen.
