In 1997 a local Artist and Blacksmith , Stuart Slater was challenged to create an installation from some rusted shopping trolleys recovered from the nearby Oratia Stream !
This is what he came up with ! Two massive bullocks pulling some Kauri logs ...
With the help of his daughter Shelley they made the shape of the beasts with reinforcing steel , and used 13 cut up trolleys , covered with hammered mesh and fibrous cement , The yoke is made from a railway sleeper .The final result was truly amazing , And if you didn't know it was there , it would be a real surprise if you were just walking past .
