Geocache Description:

Thanks for visiting one of the Forgotten Villages on the Prairie in Van Buren County, Iowa.  This a perfectly safe place to park your horse?!

Winchester was platted by John Runnells and Jefferson Cox in February 1840.  The town was located on the Keokuk to Agency road and hosted the Union Protection Society of Winchester.  This group was more commonly known as the Anti-Horse Thief Association.
