Geocache Description:

Welcome to Parkland Walk

You do not have to enter the walk to reach the cache. Please read on:

In the 1860s work started on a railway line that is now the Parkland Walk – a green walkway and local nature reserve. The tracks were used in one way or another until 1970. Soon after the tracks were lifted and most of the platforms and station buildings were demolished. The walk was officially opened in 1984 following extensive re-surfacing and improvements to access. Since then about 40 interesting species, including many birds, bats and other wildlife, have recolonised the area. The walk is also rich in wild flowers, some of which are quite rare.

The cache should have been on the bridge over Stapleton Hall Road. From here you have a good view of the intersection with Ferme Park Road and Lancaster Road with the Launderette as a nearly unaltered focus point for more than four decades. You are also high above a railway line with a straight view onto passing trains. However to avoid any damage or disturbance to plants or wildlife the cache has been placed just outside the walk near the entrance under the bridge in Stapleton Hall Road. You do not have to enter the walk to reach the cache. The Launderette can be seen from here as well. However I would suggest that you still walk up the path onto the bridge to enjoy the full view.

About the cache: you are looking for a nano with just enough room for the logbook. No room for trackables. Please bring your own pen. CPZ’s are in operation all around the cache area – please keep this in mind when arriving by car. However there might be just an empty space next to the cache for a quick park and grab.

Note for wheelchair users: wheelchair access is no problem. But it might be difficult to find and reach the cache from a sitting position.

Have fun and explore the walk while you are there.
