The cache is at Settle Weir and the former site of Bridge End Mill. This was one of a number of mills that operated on the River Ribble, originally as long ago as the 16th century, with the present buildings, dating back to 1790, now being apartments.
Settle Hydro was built in 2009 by Settle Hydro Company and is a micro hydroelectric scheme owned by the community. It uses water from the river to power a turbine (an Archimedes Screw - a technology used by the ancient Egyptians!) to produce electricity for the mill flats, with excess being fed back into the National Grid.
Access is wheelchair friendly and available at all times.
For a quick 'dash for a cache', park on the B6480 and walk to the cache from there. Please note, there is no parking for the public at the site itself.
