Old Gang Peat Store Traditional Cache

This cache and four others in the series have been set up by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and can be found at or near historic lead mining sites in the National Park.

The caches contain the usual items PLUS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION so that you can find out more about the archaeology and history of this interesting and beautiful area.

The ruins of the peat store at Old Gang are a remarkable sight and well worth the detour off the Coast to Coast path to see them. The site is a Scheduled Monument so take great care not to disturb it, the geocache is NOT hidden among the building’s remains but nearby, with kind permission of the local land managers. To reach the peat store you need to follow a grassy path uphill from the main route up the valley. We've supplied the path's start co-ordinates for you.
