Die Tannalp ist Bestandteil der der 3 Hochalpen Mechsee, Tannen und Aa, die in den beiden Sommermonaten Juli und August für die Alpwirtschaft genutzt werden. Von den Einheimischen werden diese Hochalpen „Wildi“ genannt. Der Viehbestand setzt sicht im Wesentlichen aus Kühen und Jungvieh des Braunrinds zusammen. Zu kleineren Anteilen werden auch Stiere, Ziegen und Pferde „gealpt“. Die Hochalpen sollen die Flucht aus den Voralpen ermöglichen, wenn bei diesen der Grasbestand durch die Beweidung des Viehs aufgebraucht ist. Neben der Beweidung wird in den 2 Sommermonaten auch die Melkerei und Käserei auf die „Wildi“ verlagert. Der Auf- und Abtrieb des Viehs erfolgt über die Fruttstrasse zwischen Stöckalp und Melchsee-Frutt. Auf der „Wildi“ sind zur Zeit 37 Sennhütten in Betrieb, von denen sich allein 14 auf der Tannalp befinden. Sie sind neben dem Tourismus ein wichtiger Wirtschaftfaktor für die Region Melchsee-Frutt und zugleich auch ein Magnet für alle, die die echte Alpwirtschaft einmal aus der Nähe erleben wollen.
Der Cache befindet auf der Tannalp in unmittelbarer Nähe des Berggasthauses Tannalp und der Kapelle Tannalp. Die Tannalp kann von Melchsee-Frutt aus über Wanderwege ganzjährig erreicht werden. Im Sommer verkehrt zwischen der Bergstation Melchsee-Frutt und der Tannalp das Fruttzügli. Melchsee-Frutt ist via Gondelbahn von der Stöckalp aus erreichbar. Zwischen Sarnen und der Stöckalp verkehrt regelmässig das Postauto. Mit dem Auto kann die Frutt während der Sommersaison über die Fruttstrasse zwischen der Stöckalp und Mechsee-Frutt direkt angefahren werden. Bitte dabei die Parkgebühren (16CHF) und die Zeiten für die Strassenbenutzung beachten.

The cache is located on the Tannalp in the immediate vicinity of the Berggasthaus Tannalp and the Tannalp chapel. The Tannalp is accessible all year from Mechsee-Frutt via hiking trails. In the summer Fruttzügli (Road Train) runs between the mountain station Melchsee-Frutt and Tannalp. Melchsee-Frutt can be reached via cable car from Stöckalp. Between Sarnen and Stöckalp runs a regular bus service. By car the Frutt can be approached directly during the summer season on the road between the Stöckalp and Melchsee-Frutt.
