Challenge of the Century...
To Find 5000 Geocaches
Yes it's as simple as that. In order to qualify for this challenge you must have 5000 geocache finds at the time of logging. You can use the link below to see if you qualify for this challenge (or just check your find count). If you want to find the physical cache but don't yet qualify, feel free to post a note at the time of logging which can later be changed to a found it log.
Parking is available across the river at the strip mall (see parking waypoint). Distance is approximately .8 miles each way. You can also access the cache from along the river via the Katy trail.

This challenge commemorates BruceS who was the first geocacher in the St Louis area to reach 5000 finds and also the first solo cacher to reach 1000 finds. The final is hidden at the posted coordinates which is the location of BruceS' original 40 Fox and Owl Overlook cache, a spot with a beautiful view of the Missouri River and highway 40 bridge." During the highway 40 construction, this area was closed, and the original cache was archived. Since the construction is done, this area is now re-opened with a trail that connects the Katy Trail to The Monarch Chesterfield Levee Trail.
The following is a little about BruceS from the St Louis Area Geocacher's Home Page:
The Original ‘Cache Machine’
On July 28, 2002, SLAGA members witnessed fellow geocacher BruceS find his 1,000th cache. Because of the limited number of geocaches available at that time in the history of the hobby, finding 1,000 caches was an amazing accomplishment. BruceS normally planned his caching trips so that he was hunting the first cache of the day at sunrise, and would hunt caches until after dark. Sometimes he would sprint from cache to cache without stopping to eat, and camping wherever he ended the day. By the end of 2002, BruceS had found almost all caches within 150 miles of St. Louis and had to drive several hundred miles to get to caches he hadn’t found yet. BruceS’s 1,000th find was a cache called Onondoga S.P. SLAGA recognized his accomplishment by presenting him with a gold ammo box at a picnic held in Blue Springs C.A. immediately after his milestone find.
