The ancient village of Digswell is recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book and was centred around the Church of St John the Evangelist (13th century) and Digswell House (19th century), now in the Knightsfield area of Welwyn Garden City.
The village known as Digswell today was originally known as High welwyn and developed from the opening of the main railway line from London to York in 1850. The Digswell Viaduct built by Lewis Cubitt has 40 brick arches.
Digswell Village Church is a Christian Partnership of Methodist and Church of England.
The present hall in Warren way was built in 1954 and in 1964 the hexagonal church was formally opened.
