Geocache Description:

6 caches on the wonderful way from Zermatt to Zmutt and back with a different itinerary. You can take them in one direction or the other as you prefer. It is a perfect hike with children (2h - 2h30 Zermatt-Zmutt and back) with beautiful views on the Matterhorn! It will lead you to the charming village of Zmutt where you can have a break. In Zmutt tanjafux & desa7 have put another very nice cache : "Sonne, Mond und Sterne 2". The paths are accessible from May to November.

The tourist office opened recently a „cultural way“ on the upper way (caches 4-6). The itinerary starts on church square in Zermatt next to the Art gallery. On the way you can see the oldest barn in Europe (1261), a wild apple tree or an old lynx trap among others (look for the brown signs « Kulturweg », and look at the pictures here to see the map). The upper way (caches 4-6) is very nice but a bit more difficult (some steeper parts) and there are sometimes cliffs alongside the path. As long as you stay on the path you are safe. So please be careful and stay on the path: you have nothing dangerous to do, the caches are always near the path or in a safe place, so take no risk! Our friend the little owl will be with you all along this nice walk. It will explain you different Swiss traditions. Please leave the owl in the box and don't take it with you: it wants to stay in this wonderful location. *** In cache Nr 5 the little owl will teach you about hornuss. Hornuss? At first it appears to be a mixture of golf and baseball - and yet it is much more – it is a typically Swiss sport with a tradition reaching back to the 16th century. The owl loves it! Do you? And enjoy the view on the Matterhorn all along the way to Zmutt and back!
