[Svenska] Sju sockenkyrkor i sikte
Packa ner en kikare i ryggsäcken och ta med dig en fika. Här kan du slå dig till ro en stund och njuta av den vackra utsikten. Åt sydost kan man se Store Mosse nationalpark breda ut sig och i söder glittrar vattnet på Hästhultasjön. Enligt markägarens far ska det på en klar dag gå att se hela sju sockenkyrkor uppe från berget. Om så fortfarande är fallet låter jag vara osagt då skog växer.
"Socken är beteckningen på en viktig historisk administrativ enhet, kanske den allra viktigaste vid sidan av landskapen vilka dock inte fyllt någon administrativ funktion i det moderna Sverige till skillnad från länen. På nivån mellan socknarna och länen fanns den juridiska enheten härad. Socknarna bestod av ett antal byar och gårdar på landsbygden vilka hade en gemensam kyrka och var föregångaren till dagens kommuner vilka har fått sin utbredning genom sammanslagningar steg för steg i flera reformer från mitten av 1800-talet fram till våra dagar.
Socknarna har idag ingen officiell administrativ funktion men de utgör fortfarande grund för statistik och forskning samt används som registreringsenhet i historiska arkiv. Inte minst är de av intresse för släktforskare eftersom de efter statens åtskiljande från Svenska kyrkan har varit oföränderliga till skillnad från Svenska kyrkans församlingar vilka slagits samman på många håll på grund av minskande medlemsantal och resurser.
Socknar förekom endast på landsbygden. I städerna fanns enbart kyrkans församlingar vilka ibland var icke-territoriella, det vill säga saknade geografisk gränsdragning. Totalt har det funnits 2500-3000 socknar och församlingar i Sverige."

[English] Seven parish churches in sight
Pack a pair of binoculars and bring some fika. Take a rest and enjoy the beautiful view. To the southeast, you can see the Store Mosse National Park and in the south you can see the glistening water on the lake Hästhultasjön. According to the landowner father it's possible to see seven parish churches on a clear day up from the peak. If this still is the case isn't for me to say since forests tend to grow.
"Parish is the name of an important historic administrative unit, perhaps the most important at the side of the provinces which haven't had any administrative function in modern Sweden, unlike the counties. Between the levels of parish and province there was the jurisdictional district. Parishes consisted of a number of villages and farms in rural areas which had a common church and they was the forerunner of today's municipalities which have had their propagation through mergers step by step in several reforms from the mid-1800s to the present day.
Parishes currently has no official administrative function but they still constitute the basis for statistics and research, and is used as a civil registry in the historical archives. Not least, they are of scientific interest to genealogists. After the state's separation from the Swedish Church parishes hasn't changed, unlike some congregations of the Swedish church which have merged because of declining membership and resources.
Parishes only occurs in rural areas. In the cities there were only church congregations which were sometimes non-territorial, that is to say they where missing geographical boundaries. In total, there have been 2500-3000 parishes and congregations in Sweden.
