Thank you for visiting one of the Forgotten Villages on the Prairie in Van Buren County, Iowa. Gather round but don't get "crowded" in!
Crowderville was surveyed in about 1855 for John Crowder and Stephen & Sara Gnash but the town plat was withdrawn in 1856. The only lot sale recorded was in 1859 to the local school district for the Elm School. This one-room country school was active from 1862 to the early 1950's.
