BEREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 3rd ANNUAL GEOCACHING WEEKEND (Oct. 14-16, 2016)
After an overwhelming response and positive feedback from the geocaching community since 2014, when we hosted our first Geocaching Weekend, the Berea Chamber of Commerce has included an annual "Geocaching Weekend" as a regularly scheduled calendar event. This event falls on the third weekend of October every year, so make sure you mark your calendars now. We outgrew ground zero in the first year of the event with over 150 attendees, so Berea Community School serves as our ground zero meeting location and launch site for the majority of activities we have planned over the course of the weekend, and will accommodate up to 800 Geocachers easily.
Our Berea Geocaching Weekend has something for everyone, regardless of your skill level, age level, mobility level, cache-type favorites, or event-type interests. A large assortment of temporary event caches (plus permanent caches for our official Geocaching.com GeoTour launching with this event) of varying difficulty and terrain levels will be placed throughout Berea, specifically for this event. Participants can join in the treasure hunt to locate numerous caches during this weekend of geocaching fun and games. We strive to offer an action packed weekend full of fellowship, friends, and a variety of caching activities, which offers you an opportunity to stay super busy, or will enable you to leisurely enjoy your weekend, while caching at your own relaxing pace.
Do you want to meet other others? Attend our meet and greet. Do you want to learn more about geocaching? Attend our Intro to Geocaching Class. Want to find caches? Participate in the day and/or night cache adventures. Want to win FTF prizes? Be the first to find one of our caches. Want to win door prizes? Be present and participate. Want to show how much you love mother nature? Participate in the Sunday CITO event and help remove litter from beautiful areas of Berea.

The event is FREE, the pre-registered t-shirts are FREE, and the goody bags are FREE! This demonstrates the amazing support our Berea Chamber of Commerce members, and business community members, have for this amazing event. (Don't worry - If you miss the Sept. 30th pre-registration deadline, you can still participate for free, but you will not receive the free t-shirt or goody bag. Only those who pre-register will receive a t-shirt. No extra t-shirts will be ordered.

Friday October 14th, 2016
- Registration Table is Open 6:30pm-10:00pm
- "Introduction to Geocaching" Class, 7:30pm - 8:15pm
- Event Kickoff - Geocacher Meet & Greet (Play Games & Win Prizes!!!), 8:30pm-9:30pm
Saturday October 15th, 2016
- Registration Table Open 8:00am-9:00am
- "Landlubbers & Scallywags" Our Daytime Geocaching Challenge, Meet at 9:00am for instructions, coordinates, and launch
- "The Legend of the Land Pirate Continues..." Our Night Time Geocaching Challenge, Meet at 8:00pm for instructions, coordinates, and launch
Sunday October 16th, 2016
- CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) - GC6PYAT - Cleanup Activity at 8:30am
- We will meet at the designated CITO Parking Lot for instructions, coordinates, and launch (parking lot location will be made available during Friday's and Saturday's announcements)
- We will have garbage bags at check-in, but we encourage you to bring bags and rubber gloves in case attendance is high and we run low on supplies
- Grand Finale Awards Ceremony & Event Wrap Up at 1:00pm
- All prizes and awards will be given out during this Ceremony
- First to Find (FTF) Prizes, Challenge Game Prizes, Attendance Prizes, Cache In, Trash Out (CITO) Prizes, Door Prizes, and the Grand Prize, plus participate in the 2016 Group Photo
The Berea Chamber of Commerce and it's member businesses are very excited to welcome geocachers back to Berea, KY! Our community looks forward to this event every October! We appreciate the support of our Chamber members and businesses for making this amazing event possible.
DON'T FORGET TO BRING:
- YOUR GPS (& USB cord if you want coords downloaded onto your device)
- Smartphones work, but aren't as accurate
- Download an app that can pinpoint latitude and longitude coordinates
- You'll have to enter coordinates by hand
- Pack your standard geocaching tools: tweezers, pen/pencil, a flashlight, tradeables, trackables, and a blacklight (for the night time caching activity)
- There are hiking trails in the area, so bring sturdy shoes, your hammock, and a daypack
- There are permanent paddle caches in the area, so feel free to bring your kayak
- Previous years' t-shirts if you've attended before - wear them proudly
