During the height of summer a couple of tourists come to the area.
Their names are Dunaliella salina (a single cell green alga), and Halobacteria cutirubrum (a harmless halobacterium).
When they party together with the right conditions - very high salt levels, temperatures and light,
they paint the lake red!
And not just red, as you can see from the photo - a fairly disgusting shade of Pink.
Duna and Hal go away in the winter, returning the lake to the more water like colour.
