Geocache Description:

The area this cache is placed in was given to the Icelandic Youth Organization in 1911. It was given the name Þrastarskógur (e. Sparrows Woods) in 1913 when the organization started planting trees. Today there is a thick forest here with a variety of tree species and walking paths throughout the area. It is a favorite spot with Icelanders because walking around the woods "feels like being abroad".

Locating the cache takes you down to the river Sog, just above a favorite salmon fishing spot called Kúagil (e. Cows Canyon). It offers a beutiful view over the river and throughout the summer season you are sure to see flocks of ducks and swans swimming and feeding on the river.

Directions:

Turn off road 35 as if visting the restaurant "Þrastarlundur". Turn right immediately, taking the road just above the restaurant. Make your way to the parking spot given and leave your car. Take the path to the river and where the path splits, close to the river, take the path to the right. The walk is less than 10 minutes from the parking spot.

The cache is a clear plastic container with a red lid. It contains a logbook, pencil and knick knacks.

In the cache you will find a thermometer. I would love it if you take a measurement of the air temperature and post it in your online "Found it" log.
