Fort St John is the first city on the Alaska Highway. This is Mile 43 of the road that travels 1568 miles from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Fairbanks, Alaska. FSJ, as it is known in the area, is a thriving city with its economy based on oil, gas and forestry. A great place to stop and visit. The views of the Peace River valley from the Lookout Point at the south end of 100th Street are breathtaking. Fields of grain, herds of beef cattle and one herd of buffalo that can often be seen just across the road from this cache show the agricultural basis of the settlers of the early twentieth century.
Parking available at the mailboxes nearby. Cache is small and black. Snow will be a problem.
