The Conemaugh Viaduct was built in 1831 for the Allegheny Portage Railroad. It played an important role during the flood of 1889. There are 2 other caches in the area highlighting this structure, but you must leave the trail to see it. This spot allows you to see it from the Path of the Flood Trail.
While hiking or biking the Path of the Flood Trail, there are many stops with tales of the Flood of 1889 when the Conemaugh Dam of the South Fork Hunting and Fishing Club broke and flooded Johnstown. This spot will provide a view of the Viaduct from the trail and has the informational plaque for more detailed information. Please take a minute to enjoy the view and read about the Viaduct. Our little "cache" sits and watches the trains go by all day. He has a great view. Please replace him as you find him.
CONGRATULATIONS to LT SILVERFOX and UNSURE as CO-FTF and PLAYSOCCER on second to find!
