Geocache Description:

La cache è nascosta nei pressi del rifugio Vettori, sulla cima del monte Caviojo (1120 m).
The cache is hidden near the shelter Vettori, on top of Mount Caviojo (1120 m).

Il rifugio Vettori


La vetta che immediatamente sovrasta Arsiero è il Monte Caviojo, detto anche Redentore perché nell'anno 1900 sulla sua cima è stata innalzata una grande statua del Redentore. Essa riproduceva la piccola statua che sovrasta l'altare maggiore della Chiesa Arcipretale di Arsiero ed era in legno ricoperto di piombo, alta parecchi metri fu distrutta durante la I guerra mondiale nel 1916. La Pro Arsiero, poiché non fu possibile rimettere sulla vetta la statua distrutta, adattò a cappella una grotta naturale esistente sotto la sommità del monte e vi costruì un piccolo altare su cui venne posta una statua in pietra del Redentore, esatta riproduzione di quella distrutta.
Sulla sommità del Caviojo i Giovani esploratori di Arsiero hanno poi eretto una Croce e costruito un piccolo rifugio in ricordo del loro compagno Ottorino Vettori, caduto in quel luogo nel 1946. Ogni anno, in settembre, vi si tiene una suggestiva cerimonia.

The summit which immediately overlooks Arsiero is Mount Caviojo, also called the Redeemer because in 1900 on its top was erected a large statue of the Redeemer. It reproduced the small statue above the main altar of the Dean church of Arsiero and was wood covered with lead, several meters high, but was destroyed during the First World War in 1916. The Pro Arsiero, since it was not possible to put the statue on the summit destroyed, adapted a cappella an existing natural cave below the summit of the mountain and built a small altar on which was placed a stone statue of the Redeemer, exact reproduction of that destroyed.
On top of the Caviojo Youth Arsiero Scout explorers have also erected a cross and built a small shelter in memory of their comrade Ottorino Vettori, fell into that place in 1946.

Come raggiungere la Cima del Caviojo


Si può arrivare alla cima del Caviojo dalla pianura partendo da Arsiero (WP1) affrontando la salita sul versante meridionale del monte. Il sentiero è quasi sempre in salita per un dislivello di circa 800 metri percorribile in poco meno di due ore.
In alternativa si può giungere alla cima da Nord partendo dal Monte Cimone seguendo le indicazioni per il sentiero 544. In questo caso il tempo di percorrenza è meno di un'ora.
Sia che si utilizzi quest'ultimo percorso o che si arrivi dalla pianura si giunge a ridosso della cima nello stesso punto, in cui si deve affrontare un tratto di percorso attrezzato abbastanza facile necessario ad arrampicarsi sullo sperone roccioso che costituisce la sommità del Caviojo. Questa via non presenta grosse difficoltà ma è deve comunque essere affrontata con una adeguata attrezzatura in modo da poter completare l'ascesa in tutta sicurezza.
Sulla cima è presente un bivacco normalmente aperto che offre possibilità di ricovero per 4/5 persone; ci sono delle reti per dormire e la possibilità di accendere un fuoco. Dopo l'utilizzo si raccomanda di lasciare il posto in condizioni migliori di come lo si è trovato!

You can reach the top of Caviojo from the plains starting from Arsiero (WP1) facing the ascent on the southern slope of the mountain. The trail is mostly uphill for a drop of about 800 meters walkable in just under two hours.
Alternatively you can reach the summit from the north starting from Monte Cimone following signs for the path 544. In this case, the travel time is less than an hour.
Whether you use this path or if you travel from plain you will reach the same point before the top, where you are faced with a equipped part of trail quite easy to climb to reach the rock that forms the summit of Caviojo. This route does not present great difficulties but it must still be approached with a right equipment in order to complete the climb safely.
On the top there is bivouac normally open that offers possibility of shelter for 4/5 persons; there are beds to sleep and the possibility to start a fire. After use, it is recommended to leave the place in better condition than you found it!
