La Torre del Chianti, originariamente denominata Torre dell'acqua, è un'antica torre, ubicata nel Comune di San Casciano in Val di Pesa (Firenze) vicino al convento di San Francesco.
La Torre venne realizzata in legno nei primi anni del ‘900, ma fu distrutta durante i bombardamenti bellici del secondo conflitto mondiale.
Nei primi anni del dopoguerra il serbatoio fu ricostruito nelle forme e dimensioni attuali.
Adesso la struttura è costituita da calcestruzzo armato ed è alta circa 37 metri.
Negli ultimi anni è stata restaurata e adesso è a servizio dell'acquedotto comunale e come terrazza panoramica.
La torre è aperta solo in alcuni orari (per sapere quando dove controllare il sito del comune), ma se salite su avrete una vista mozzafiato.
Infatti con un semplice giro su voi stessi, potrete vedere le colline del Chianti, le colline e le montagne sia fiorentine sia pistoiesi, Vallombrosa, i territori pisani, i borghi senesi e, nelle giornate più limpide, persino il mare.
Contenuto iniziale della cache: logbook, istruzioni sul geocaching, foglio con la storia dell'acquedotto (italiano è inglese), premio-ricordo per il FTF, matita e coccinella.
Importante: il geocache è nei pressi della torre, non dentro o in cima!

Torre del Chianti (Chianti Tower) is a ancient tower locate in San Casciano Val di Pesa (Florence) near the San Francesco convent.
The first name of this tower was "Torre dell'acqua" (Water Tower).
The tower was built of wood in the early '900, but it was destroyed during the bombing of World War II.
In the early postwar years the tower was rebuilt in the forms and current size.
Now the structure is in reinforced concrete and it is about 37 meters high.
In recent years it has been renovated and now it provides a municipal water service and it is a panoramic terrace.
The tower is open to the public during some hours (if you want know the opening time you must check in the web site of the city), but if you get up to the top then you can admire a breath-taking view.
You will be able to see, just by turning around, the Chianti hills, the hill and the mountains of Florence and Pistoia, Vallombrosa, Pisa’s territory, Siena’s hamlets and, whenever the sky is limpid, even the sea.
