If you have arrived at GZ from Barge Park, then hopefully your feet are still dry after jumping across the creek (the only water crossing on this leg of the track). The track will continue to the west from here before heading North along a minor ridge to the main track.
The first time I used this track to connect to the Pukenui Main Ridge Track I spent a significant amount of time wandering along the creek bed below GZ trying to find the trail again as the track disappeared and no trail marking triangles could be spotted from the creek. Hopefully this geocache will save you from a similar folly as it's location should help you jump across the creek and find the narrow trail winding up the slope to GZ.
The Pukenui Forest is a really great hidden gem on Whangarei's doorstep.
There are several options when hiking in the Pukenui Forest. This section of the track is rated for experienced trampers only and a high level of fitness is strongly recommended for this track.
The connection from Barge Park to the Main Ridge is steep in places and meanders in others. From experience it is important to pay attention to the orange triangles marking the trail and hopefully this geocache will help to keep you on the not-straight, but narrow path.
Bring your own scribble stick.
