[IT]Come per Mazzorbo anche Burano è nata grazie alle invasioni dei Barbari che avevano costretto gli abitanti della terraferma a spostarsi.
La prima testimonianza, comunque, risale all'840. Le prime abitazioni erano poste su palafitte con le pareti fatte di canne e fango e solo a partire dall'anno Mille furono costruite case in mattoni. Burano poteva godere anche di un clima mite e salubre grazie ad una certa ventilazione che allontanava la malaria.
Famosa per la lavorazione artigianale dei merletti, nonché per le sue tipiche case vivacemente colorate, sebbene il motivo e l'origine di questa usanza non siano ancora chiari. Si pensa che i colori vivaci servissero ai barcaioli per ritrovare la propria casa in presenza della nebbia, che a Burano si presenta particolarmente fitta
Altra cosa assolutamente da provare è il tipico dolce, il bussolà, biscotto a ciambella giallo di uova, farina e burro, da non confondere con il "bossolà" di Chioggia, un pane tostato a ciambella. Con lo stesso impasto si prepara l'esse dalla forma di lettera "S".
