The commune was established by Savo Majić in 1974. Until 1985, the house was the home of hippies: Savo Majić, Biljana Majić, their daughter Marta Majić, Majda Terze, her son Marinko Terze and Bor Gostiša. The Savo’s cremation ashes was indeed spread around the house after his death.
For their living they produced seasonal jewellery like leather accessories (i.e belts), necklaces, bracelets, which they were selling at stands in touristic places Hvar and Stari Grad.
Their property is still there. It consists of the main house, “dimna kužina” (side building with open fireplace), water fountain and “kozja štala” (goat stall).
The house is now empty and owned by Marta Majić who lives in the Netherlands.
Bor Gostiša, the ex-commune member (1979-1981), let’s call him modern hippie, lives with his original tales from the commune, guitar and his two dogs (Pika and Tačka) only 500m away from the house (direction Bogomolje). He developed his own, very sustainable, independent, anti-militant, out-of-the box living style. He supplies his house with rainwater and solar panels on a ranch full of olive trees, an old mulberry tree, 80 years old pine tree and of course with the great terrace view towards the sea.
He joined the commune in 1979 leaving behind successful career of most likely the first rock musician in Slovenia. He was a member of many music bands like Bele Vrane, Albatros. etc.
If you visit the house, you can perhaps sense spirit of the place that once upon a time was full of love, cannabis, mutual understanding, collaboration…all those values that our society will have to re-invent again in this crazy capitalistic times.
