The Bankhead House was the childhood home of Leonard Leacock (1904 – 1992), who had a distinguished career as a musician. This house was originally an Eaton catalogue mail-order home built around 1913 in Bankhead, Alberta. Bankhead is an abandoned mining town at the foot of Cascade Mountain. The house was moved to 349 Banff Ave at the corner of Moose Street and Banff Avenue in 1926 and is a B ranked property on the municipality’s heritage inventory.
Leacock House – Built around 1913
- Leacock house was the childhood home of Leonard Leacock (1904 – 1992), who had a distinguished career as a musician and was an accomplished climber and photographer, The Leacock Theatre of Mount Royal College in Calgary was dedicated in his honour on 18 Nov 1972. In 1973, for service to music, he was presented with an Alberta Achievement Award by the provincial government and in 1985 he was named a Member of the Order of Canada.
