Beaverdam Waterdord is a medium sized traditional cache. It is 100 yards downstream from the old Indian and Pioneer waterford on Beaverdam Creek in the Northern part of Cherokee County NC. This is historical Cherokee lands that were taken from the Cherokee during the removal in 1838 that resulted in what is today known as "The Trail of Tears." To get to this cache, you must travel North on Joe Brown Highway (JBH) out of Murphy North Carolina or South out of Coker Creek TN. It is in the community of Unaka. To see more of the history of the area, see "Wacheessee's Town" cache which is approximately 1/4 mile up the road. These two caches are basically a pair. Wacheessee's house stood very near Beaverdam Ford about 100 yards upstream from this cache in the creekbottom(alluvial flatlands). The exact location of the house and ford are lost to time, settlement and erosion, as Beaverdam is a major waterflow and has some very strong currents during our common thunderstorms. Below the cache in the creek are rainbow and brown trout. Very near the cache is fine wading, although the current can be a little strong if you go too deep. Downstream are some waterfalls. Be carefull, but you can walk out onto them. I used to do it all the time when i troutfished here as a teen. Above the cache is some private property, but you can fish if you stay on the rocks or in the water.
The cache is a snaplock box covered in duct tape. It has a log, pencil, some swag items, Travel Bug "Sparky" and Proxy trackables Signal FTF Micro Geocoin and Trek Trail Hiker which we picked up in Western NY two weeks ago on vacation to give them a BIG jump of 600 miles!
