The cache container is not at the posted coordinates in the water. Solve the puzzle to find the cache. The container is a 3.5 cup lock and lock type plastic container. You will have to bushwhack about 125' through open woods to reach the cache location. If there is much snow you may have to dig to find this cache but the location should be obvious.
The Great Flood:
Over the years there have been many floods, both natural and man-made. While we can’t prevent tsunamis or torrential rainfall, we can try to make sure that best engineering practices are used to insure public safety. Some of the floods that are the result of errors in building inadequate structures or shoddy dams are doubly tragic because they are usually preventable. Despite the consequences, some people will still try to cut corners and the results can be disastrous.
Around noon on an unusually warm January day in 1919, in a major east coast city, a flood of 2.3 million gallons of a non-newtonian fluid destroyed parts of the city, killing 21 and injuring 150 people, and causing $100 million worth of property damage in today’s dollars. Stories of this great flood and the resulting class-action lawsuit that lasted 10 years are still told in that neighborhood to this day. The main reason that this great flood isn’t more widely known is because of how truly bizarre the event was. There are some songs about this event and even one children’s book that mentions it. Google, find, and read the story about this tragic flood then solve the puzzle to get the final coordinates. You may have to Google more than one article to get the 2 pieces of information needed, but it is out there. Note that the 'History Today' page has very misleading information and shouldn't be used.
Photo of the flood area.
The puzzle is pretty simple. A=the height in feet of the structure that failed. For the N coordinates subtract .011 times A from the fake decimal minutes for N. B= the number of thousands of dollars the family of each fatal victim received from the lawsuit. For the W coordinates subtract .085 times B from the fake decimal minutes for W.
09/07/2016 NOTE: over 1/3 of the wrong calculations for north in the checker are because, after people have found the correct info, they are are ignoring the decimal point and having trouble subtracting 2 simple numbers!
