Geocache Description:

La cache è nascosta nei pressi di Bocchetta Portule, in un anfratto della roccia sul lato sinistro della strada che sale alla Bocchetta. Altitudine 1937 m.

The cache is hidden near Bocchetta Portule in a crevice of the rock on the left side of the road that leads up to the nozzle. Altitude 1937 m.

Bocchetta Portule

Bocchetta Portule fu oggetto di grandi avvenimenti bellici nel 1916 svolgendo un ruolo cruciale nell'organizzazione logistica austriaca fino a tutto il 1917.
Nel 1916 a fianco della bocchetta era stata realizzata una batteria in caverna per pezzi da 120 mm col compito di interdire la strada della Val d'Assa. Tale batteria costituiva uno dei pochi lavori apprezzabili realizzati sulle linee di difesa dell'altipiano. Ciò nonostante il tiro dei suoi pezzi non risultò particolarmente efficace e la batteria cadde quindi in mano austriaca il 23 Maggio quando gli austriaci occuparono Cima Portule arrivando fino alla bocchetta.
Una volta occupata dagli austriaci la sella venne rifornita di una bellissima strada dedicata al principe Rutenio. La galleria che aveva fornito ricovero alle truppe italiane divenne sede delle vasche di raccolta dell'acqua pompata dal fondo della val d'Assa destinata a dissetare le truppe dislocate nella parte nord orientale dell'altipiano. Da qui transitava la maggior parte del traffico e dei rifornimenti logistici destinati all'imponente base logistica di Campo Gallina.

Bocchetta Portule was the subject of major events of the war in 1916 and playing a crucial role in the Austrian logistics until the end of 1917.
In 1916 next to the nozzle was made a cave for battery for pieces of 120 mm with the task of preventing the road of Val d'Assa. This battery was one of the few valuable work done on the plateau defense lines. Nevertheless, the pull of his pieces did not turn out very effective and the battery fell then in Austrian hands on May 23 when the Austrians occupied Cima Portule coming up to the nozzle.
Once occupied by the Austrians Bocchetta Portule was completed with a beautiful road dedicated to the prince Ruthenium. The gallery, which had provided shelter to Italian troops became the seat of the collection tanks of water pumped from the bottom of the Val d'Assa and destined to quench the thirst of the troops stationed in the north eastern part of the plateau. From here transiting the majority of traffic and logistical supplies destined impressive logistics base of Campo Gallina.

Giro del Portule

Si può partire dal rifugio Cima Larici (m.1650) o da Val Formica oppure dai pressi del bivio per malga Larici di Sotto, al termine dell'asfalto. Conviene percorrere l'itinerario in senso antiorario, salendo dapprima alla bocchetta Portule, quindi per il Filon di Portule alla cima Portule e scendendo infine verso cima Larici. Naturalmente l'escursione si può effettuare anche in senso inverso salendo direttamente a cima Portule, tuttavia la salita è notevolmente più ripida e tutto il percorso meno godibile.
Portule Da malga Larici di Sotto (m.1630, agriturismo in stagione) seguire la strada sterrata che, con un ampio arco, aggira tutta la profonda val Renzola, tralasciando l'indicazione per la salita diretta per Porta Renzola. La passeggiata di oltre sei chilometri è piacevole e senza fatica si sale a bocchetta Portule (m.1935), l'ampia insellatura che si affaccia sulla val Trentin, grandioso vallone secondario della val Galmarara.
Abbandonata la strada si prosegue per il sentiero (segnalazioni Cai n.826) che, tra grandi distese di mughi sale verso i Cornetti di Bocchetta Portule e alla grande piattaforma del Filon di Portule.
Il paesaggio è racchiuso entro un tipico vallone poco pronunciato, mostra tutte le caratteristiche carsiche con numerose doline e grandi sassaie. Il sentiero è sempre ben evidente, tuttavia in caso di nebbia bisogna prestare molta attenzione a non perdere la traccia.
Si esce ad una amplissima balconata prativa e d'improvviso il panorama si estende a 360 gradi e mostra il Verena, il Vezzena, cima Portule ormai a portata di mano, Cima XII e praticamente tutto l'altopiano di Asiago.
Si prosegue lungo l'affascinante ed aerea dorsale del Filon di Portule per guadagnare la grande Croce della lunga cima del Portule.
Verso nord si scende brevemente al risalto del Kempel da dove, verso sinistra (ovest) inizia la ripidissima discesa alla volta di bocchetta Renzola (m.1950) per ricongiungersi alla parte iniziale del percorso.

You can start from the refuge Cima Larici (m.1650) or Val Formica or from near the junction for Malga Larici di Sotto, at the end of the asphalt. I't better travel the route counterclockwise, going first to Bocchetta Portule, so for the Filon of Portule to the top and finally down to Cima Larici.
Of course the hike can also be done in reverse going straight to Cima Portule, but the climb is much steeper and all the way less enjoyable.
From Malga Larici di Sotto (M.1630) follow the road, with a wide arc, wanders across the deep valley Renzola, ignoring the sign for the direct ascent to Porta Renzola.
The walk over six kilometers is pleasant and effortless and lead you to Bocchetta Portule (m.1935), the wide saddle that overlooks the valley Trentin, grand valley of secondary Galmarara valley.
After leaving the road and continue along the path (CAI 826), among large expanses of mountain pines. The landscape is enclosed within a typical valley slightly pronounced and shows all features with numerous karst sinkholes and large stony. The trail is quite evident, however, in case of fog you must be very careful not to lose track.
You go out to a very large grassy balcony and suddenly the view extends to 360 degrees and shows Verena, Vezzena, Cima Portule now at hand, Cima XII and pretty much the Asiago plateau. Continue along the charming and dorsal air of Portule Filon to earn big Cross of the long top of Portule.
To the north it goes down briefly to Kempel from where, to the left (west) begins steep descent in the direction of Porta Renzola (m.1950) to rejoin the initial part of the route.
