Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This the second cache in the Bailieborough Walking Tour series.
This cache only contains a log book so you will need your own pen and possibly tweezers. Please replace the log into the lid of the cache.
This area is busy on Fridays during the day with Dermott the 'Vegetable Man' so if not safe to retrieve the cache a photo of some of his produce can substitute for the signing the log!
Built in 1817, the Courthouse is the oldest building in the town. A 'Bridewell' or short term prison was added in 1833 and used for detention until 1900. The jailer and his family lived upstairs over the detention cells. As you stand at GZ you can see the massive wall at the side and rear of the building. There can be no doubt about it's effectiveness as a prison. The building is no longer in use but Bailieborough Development Association are determined it should have a "real live future, rather than just a building that is preserved" so watch this space!!
