Algajola
Porto is a the harbourtown of Ota, French commune in the department of Corse-du-Sud region and Corsica. It belongs to the micro-region of Sevi in Fora. The Gulf of Porto was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The hamlet of Porto is located at the bottom of the valley of the coastal river Porto, about a kilometer from its mouth. The latter houses the fishing port but also a flotilla of boats, some for the season trips to the Calanche de Piana and Capu Rossu south of the Gulf of Porto, and to Girolata and Scandola Nature Reserve in the north, and the other dive schools and to rent.East of the square Genoese tower, developed Puerto Marina, a tourist complex consisting of hotels, restaurants and shops. South tower, Porto has a large pebble beach.
Porto is located equidistant from Ajaccio in the south, north of Calvi and Corte east. It is crossed by the D81 road called Route in this portion of the Corsican sea, but it is the starting point of the D84 road between the RN 193 to Francardo (Omessa). The economy of the Porto region is mainly based on tourism. There are more than forty hotels. Back-season many groups visit the site. But there also remains some of the primary sector (farming). The tourist office is located in Porto Marina.
It is world heritage of humanity by UNESCO, and includes: Porto, the Calanche de Piana, Girolata and Scandola Nature Reserve.
Places to visit are the Genovese tower, the Bruyère Museum an the Aquarium of the Powder in Porto Marina.
The Genovese tower of Porto is build 45 m high on a rock overlooking the mouth of Porto. This fortified building of the sixteenth century. It houses educational panels the history of Corsica until the sixteenth century.
The cache
From the viewpoint in the listing (near the cache) you have a great view of Porto. A couple of kilometers north you will find another cache called “vue sur Porto” but I could’t see anything of Porto at all…
Be careful with the traffic. There is not a lot (safe) space at the viewpoint.
The cache is located at the other side of the road (again, take care). You will have to climb the hill to reach it. Put the cache back the way you found it (or better if it was visible).
Though it can be really quiet here, there are also moments there are muggles around. So use stealth when needed…
