POSTSTØGA - OPDAL
Postruta mellom Christiania og Bergen gjekk frå postgard til postgard gjennom Valdres. Dei øvste postgardane før Filefjell var Opdal i aust og Borlo i vest. Denne strekninga var rekna for å vera den tyngste og vanskelegaste postvegen i landet, og derfor fekk postgardane her fritak frå militærplikt. Opdalsgarden ligg langs den gamle allfarvegen, og då Kongevegen vart bygd, vart det sett opp ei ny poststøge for kvile og postbyte. Her var også husmannsplass, og truleg var det husmannen som fekk oppgåva å gå med posten. Siste husmenn her var Thommas Eriksson Oppdalstuen og kona Marit Larsdotter Grøv. Huset vart flytta då hovudvegen vart lagd på den andre sida av elva i 1891. I dag kan du sjå ruinane etter Poststøga og landkaret til brua opp til Opdal.
Frå Poststøga går ein lang og tung bakke nordover, Tvørråbakkin, og eit stykke oppi bakken ligg ei stor steinhelle. Kan hende vart ho brukt til kvile- eller lasteplass?
KONGEVEGEN OVER FILEFJELL
Då den Bergenske Kongeveg vart bygd på slutten av 1700-talet, fekk ein for fyrste gong køyreveg mellom Aust- og Vestlandet. I dag er den gamle Kongevegen eitt av dei finaste veghistoriske kulturminna vi har. Den 10 mil lange vandreruta Kongevegen over Filefjell tek deg gjennom nokre av dei vakraste landskapa i Noreg. Frå tronge og dramatiske fjordlandskap inst i Sognefjorden, via høgfjellet på Filefjell, og ned i innlandsbygdene i Valdres. Ei reise mellom landsdelane - med den historiske Kongevegen som den raude tråden undervegs. Der vegen er borte nyttar ein andre trasear, slik at det blir ein samanhengande turveg frå Lærdalsøyri til Vang. Syklistar har alternative ruter utanom dei mest sårbare delane av Kongevegen.
POSTSTØGA - OPDAL
Mail between Christiania and Bergen was carried from farm to farm through Valdres. The two uppermost postal inns before Filefjell were Opdal in the east and Borlo in the west. This stretch was considered the most difficult and challenging in the country, and people living at the farms operating as postal inns were exempt from military service. The farm Opdal is located along the old track, and with the new Kongevegen came a new postal inn – a Poststøga in which to rest and hand the mail over to someone else. This new building was also a croft, and bringing the mail to the next posting inn is likely to have been the crofter’s job. Thommas Eriksson Oppdalstuen and his wife Marit Larsdotter Grøv were the last crofters at this site. When the main route was moved to the other side of the river in 1891, the building was also moved. The ruins of Poststøga and the abutment for the bridge leading to Opdal are still visible.
Going north from Poststøga, there is a long, challenging climb, Tvørråbakkin, with a large slab of stone some way up the hill. Maybe it was used as a place to rest or for loading?
KONGEVEGEN OVER FILEFJELL Bergenske Kongeveg, built at the end of the 1700s, was the first proper road between eastern and western Norway. Today, the old Kongevegen is one of our most beautiful cultural heritage routes. The 100 km Kongevegen across Filefjell walk leads through some of Norway's most spectacular scenery.
